Ted hoses us again!
Mar 08th, 2010, 10:26am

It's official, http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-jaguars-kampman&prov=ap&type=lg... Kampman is no longer a Packer.  The Pack has lost it's best pass rusher of the past few seasons to free-agency.

If only there were signs that Kampman wouldn't have come back.  IF only we would have known last year that Kampman wasn't happy with the 3-4 defense, the Pack could have traded Kampman and gotten something in return.

Wait, I do believe there were signs that Kampman was unhappy.  Actually, now that I think about it, Kampman stated in camp last year that he was not happy about the defense change.  So what do we do with star players on the last year of their contract when they are unhappy with the team????  Any GM with half a brain gets a trade.

Lets just ignore the injury, and acknowledge that Kampman already wasn't getting it done last year in the 3-4.  So having Kampman last year was a waste, and now he is lost to free-agency with the Pack getting nothing in return.

Once again, terrible job T2.

Ah yes, because you knew he wouldn't work out in the 3-4 in July.
You also knew how well Matthews and Jones would play.
You also know for a fact that the Packers weren't trying to make a move with Kampmen.
You also knew that he was in the last year of his contract and trading at the deadline for 10 games would have gotten a 3rd round pick, at best.
So now, gaze into that crystal ball and tell us what kind of year Kampmen will have this year. Because if he has a good year, the Packers will get that 3rd round pick in compensatory fashion.

So trade him last year, to a team he has no say in for maybe a 3rd rounder. Or let him pick his destination this year and maybe get a 3rd rounder. What a jerk the TT is.

Of course Captain Hindsight, Mike Heller, would have had no problem going into the season with 4 OLB's, 2 of which had never played a down in the NFL, one who was struggling in Poppinga and the 4th who had played a total of 161 NFL snaps in Jeremy Thompson. Who's your pass rusher?

And I'm sorry Leroy Butler but a 1st round pick for 16 games? No. We don't know if they were trying to trade him or not. Who would they have traded with -A) a team that plays the 4-3, that narrows your options,B) a team that needs a DLE, more options narrowed,C) a team that would trade for a player for 1 year, less options and finally D)a team he wants to go to. You can maybe answer A and B (but since you admit you don't watch any other teams besides the Packers and the Favres, I highly doubt it) but you cannot possibly answer C and or D.

And for your players switching positions from the 4-3 to the 3-4 Mike - here's a few that have done it, some with Capers - Willie McGinest, Greg Ellis, Jason Taylor, Mike Vrabel, Tony Brackens. Just another hack with an agenda. Many reports say the Packers maybe would have gotten a 3rd and a 5th, and if things go well they'll get a 3rd. So you're right, the Packers screwed up, hopefully to the tune of a 5th round draft choice. I can live with that.

Oh yeah, and then there's this:

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Aaron Kampman has been there for Green Bay Packers rookie Brad Jones all year, sharing the subtle tricks and techniques he has learned on the field and in the film room through seven-plus NFL seasons.

The Packers can’t count on Kampman anymore, but Jones still will.

Jones credits Kampman for the improvement he has made since coming to Green Bay as a seventh-round pick out of Colorado. And while players sometimes fade into the background after sustaining season-ending injuries, Jones hopes that isn’t the case with his mentor.

“Aaron’s so good, man,” Jones said Tuesday. “He’s really the description of a ‘vet,’ a veteran. He knows so much, he’s helped me so much. Just watching me, giving me little technique corrections, everything. … I really hope he stays around.

And this:
All I saw on the practice field was Kampman working hard with outside linebackers coach Kevin Greene, and giving as many pointers as he could to younger players like B.J. Raji, Brad Jones and Clay Matthews. And at least a few veterans have told me that Kampman continued to be one of the leaders on the team even after his injury

I did not hear any attempts to trade Kampman, but I did hear several that he was not happy moving to the 3-4.  I do have to say that your attempts to make it sound like the field to trade a pass rushing pro-bowl DE that leads his team in sacks to is narrow.  Half the teams in the league play a 4-3, and since when does an NFL player get to decide where he is traded to?

Supposing there were unreported trade attempts, I guarantee any trouble trading Kampman, was because T2 was demanding too much and not lack of interest.

One other point, T2 had to know that they were not going to resign Kampman, if they were already in his last year of contract and Kampman was angry.  Who lets a pro-bowler go to the last year of a contract without an extension or new contract?

Face it Buzz, T2 let a pro-bowler walk out of the organization and got nothing in return and that is a black mark on a GM's history.

Nothing in return is completely inaccurate. They may be getting a 5th for Colin Cole - how was his year last year?

Also, Clay Matthews had a bad hammy and played one series in the last preseason game - that's it. Jeremy Thompson was dinged up and missed 2 of the 4.So yeah Thompson screwed up to the tune of a 5th round pick. Get over it.

Here's a few more "black marks" in history for you to revise:
"Hey, Brett, don't throw it there". (x10 or more)
"Tony Mandarich might not be our best option, that Sanders guy tho"
"Suppan had a good playoff series, but really....how much?"
"Bowie or Jordan, Bowie or Jordan, Bowie or Jordan....?"
Matt Hasselbeck "We'll kick off"
"Coach Osborne, I can make that kick"
"Hey Grady, Pedro looks tired"
"Remeber Chris, we're out of timeouts"
"Wait, wait, Hershel Walker for what!?!?!"

His mistakes are just more magnified by the Favre crowd, I get that. Like having a top 10 offense and defense, the Favre crowd points to the schedule. Hey, they made the playoffs! Yeah, well they lost. They got scorched by Arizona (who also put up pretty good numbers vs. the #1 defense in the Superbowl the year before). It'll never end.

Oh, it will end.  When Mark Murphy finally makes a move and gets a decent GM, it will end.

Yep, the Packers are completely void of talent aren't they? Just like Favre will be hoisting the Lombardi one day soon too right? Don't hold your breath.

Either way you would be whining about something. Say Kampman does get traded, all we would hear about was what an idiot he was (TT) for getting rid of the only proven pass rusher on the team. Then every week we'd hear about the Packers lack of pressure on the QB and someone would say "did you see the week Kampman had in wherever, we could use that guy". As it was he was 3rd in sacks and 2nd in QB hits (2 behind Matthews) despite only playing half as many snaps. His coverage numbers weren't that bad either - thrown at 8 times for 5 receptions and 41 yards in 78 coverages. He wasn't as lost as people want to say he was now.

Here is how his last 3 years look;
2009  208 pass rushes  4 sacks  12 QB hits  11 QB pressures
2008  556 pass rushes  11 sacks 20 QB hits  28 QB pressures
2007  333 pass rushes  8 sacks  14  QB hits   9 QB pressures

Also keep in mind other GM's , unlike fans, know what is going with everyone elses team. Teams knew the position the Packers and Kampman were in. They could trade him or play him and hope he does well. There is no way a team was going to give up anything above a 3 and maybe a 5-7. Maybe in a video game, not in real life.

"Who lets a pro-bowler go to the last year of a contract without an extension or new contract? "

Really? Would you like a list? And he was in the last year of an extension he signed in 2006, so it would have been his 2nd extension.
